I chose to major in philosophy because it tackles the big questions in life. In philosophy, you are never expected to accept anything as true just because somebody says so. It is up to the individual to judge what is true by reason rather than deferring to an authority figure for the answer.

The requirements listed below reflect Mount Union’s new curriculum for the 2012-2013 Academic Year. For information regarding major or minor requirements for current students, please refer to the University Catalogue of your entering year.
Core Requirements: Required Philosophy Courses
- Classical Philosophy
- Modern Philosophy
Ethics Requirement: Any One from the Following Courses
- Bio-Medical Ethics
- Environmental Ethics
Epistemology/Metaphysics Requirement: Any One from the Following Courses
- Philosophy of Religion
- Philosophy of Science
- Philosophy of Mind/Artificial Intelligence
Electives: Three additional PHL courses, at least two of which must be at the 200-level or above
- In meeting the Electives requirement, students with a double major may include one course from their other major that is approved by the Philosophy and Religious Studies Chair as a “theoretical foundations” course.
