Phoenix - Spring 2011

Location: Phoenix, AZ

Theme: Born from the Ashes

Mission: The Multicultural Retreat (MCR) is an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to experience the multiculturalism of the United States of America. Students along with faculty and staff from the University travel to metropolitan areas to absorb the unique diversity which major metropolitan cities offer. During Spring Break, the MCR traveled to the cosmopolitan city of Phoenix, Arizona. Phoenix is the capital of Arizona and the largest city in the Grand Canyon state. Moreover, it is the 5th most populated city in the United States with over 1.6 million people and more than 4 million people living in the Greater Phoenix metropolitan area. Located in the northeastern reaches of the Sonoran Desert, Phoenix has the hottest climate of any major city in the United States. The city boasts a unique blending of urban energy along with Southwestern culture and is replete with the spirit of puebloans, ranchers, miners and visionaries. The Multicultural Retreat was pleased to visit Phoenix and experience the rich cultural heritage of one of North America’s fastest growing metropolitan cities.
