Physician Assistant Careers
Physician assistants have the credentials to practice medicine with physician supervision. PAs are equipped to elicit medical histories, conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret medical laboratory tests, counsel on preventive health care, assist in surgery and write prescriptions. According to the American Academy of Physician Assistants, “A PA’s practice may also include educations, research and administration services.”
Physician assistants may work in the following settings:
- Private practice offices
- Surgical settings
- Emergency rooms
- Federal prison health clinics
