My favorite professor at Mount Union is Dr. Bob Ekey, assistant professor of physics and chair of the Department of Physics. He’s also my advisor, and I like the fact that I get to work with him every semester by helping him teach Introduction to Physics labs. Dr. Ekey also is on the pre-health professions committee and has given me a lot of advice as it pertains to preparing for the MCAT and applying to medical school.
Physics Learning Objectives
Students in the physics and astronomy major at Mount Union experience a high degree of hands-on involvement in the program which prepares graduates for careers in astronomy and astrophysics, engineering, applied physics and education.
The flexible program allows students to tailor their education preparing them for professional work as well as graduate study. Whether physics, astronomy or engineering piques your interest, the combination of theory and practical experience will prepare you for success.
With our new $23 million natural sciences facility, Bracy Hall, which opened up in the fall of 2003, physics and astronomy students have the classroom and laboratory essentials required for functional learning. Along with a machine shop and computer lab for students, there is a roof-top observatory with a variety of state-of-the-art equipment.
Students in the physics and astronomy major join student organizations such as the Society of Physics Students and Sigma Pi Sigma, the physics honorary.
Students can participate in experiential learning including internships and the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) programs sponsored by the National Science Foundation.
