Pozo and Webb Ceramic Art Exhibit to be Held at Mount Union

February 02, 2009

pozoMount Union College will feature ceramic pieces by Angelica Pozo and Donna Webb from February 2 through March 3 in the Crandall Art Gallery. An Artists’ Reception will be held on Thursday, February 5 from 4-6 p.m.

Pozo, a New York City native born of Cuban and Puerto Rican parents, has lived in Cleveland since 1984. She earned a bachelor of fine arts from SUNY College of Ceramics in Alfred, NY and a master of fine arts from the University of Michigan. She divides her time between her widely exhibited sculptural studio work, major public art commissions and artist residencies involving large ceramic tile/mosaic projects primarily in arts-in-education programs. Many of these projects have been through the Ohio Arts Council, but she has done numerous residencies with other organizations, nationally, as well as internationally. She has been awarded an OAC Individual Artist Fellowship, as well as an Arts Midwest/NEA Regional Individual Artist Fellowship

webbWebb, who teaches art at the Myers School of Art at the University of Akron, has taught ceramics to more than 1,000 students. She earned a bachelor of fine arts from Eastern Michigan University and a master of fine arts from the University of Michigan. She has had an impact on public buildings in Ohio through the mosaic installations she does with her collaborator Joseph Blue Sky. The two have been aided in these efforts by teams of students who have been able to learn how to design, make and install art tiles. These works can be seen at The Ohio Central Psychiatric Hospital, at Shawnee State University, Metro Health Hospital, Akron Children’s Hospital and the Student Union at the University of Akron.

Crandall Gallery, which is located at the corner of Simpson Street and Union Avenue between Cope Music Hall and Rodman Playhouse, is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 1 to 6 p.m.
