The Michael Chekhov Acting Technique Certified Teacher Program is for college professors, high school teachers, theatre professionals and students who want to:
- Expand their training methods to help students
- Deepen their acting experience
- Gain a better understanding of the Michael Chekhov Technique and how to bring it to life
- Become a Certified Teacher or Certified Actor in the Michael Chekhov Technique
The Certified Teacher Program is a three-session program.
The First Module: The Actor’s Imagination
The first module includes instruction and experience with the Michael Chekhov principles of imagination and concentration. Exercises will create a foundation for further work with the technique in modules two and three. Discussions on readings from Chekov’s book, To The Actor, will be incorporated.
The Second Module: The Actor’s Body and Psychology
Concentration of the second module focuses on how the body is linked to the actor’s imagination and thought process. As Chekhov states, “the actor’s body is his instrument for expressing creativity on the stage and he must strive for the attainment of complete harmony between the two – body and psychology.”
The Third Module: Characterization and Transformation
The third module will include a review of the first and second modules and add the aspects of characterization and transformation. The composition of the performance will be explored from the perspective of the actor and director.
The Fourth Module: Graduates of GLMCC
Module 4 is designed for graduates of GLMCC. We will accept up to 10 participants in 2016. The focus will be on directing using the Technique. Participants will act in two scenes each and direct one. Under the guidance of two Master Teachers, participants will gain hands-on experience in the use of various Chekhov exercises in solving specific problems using contemporary 5 minute scenes. The scenes will be presented on the first full day of our regular conference to Modules 1-3. Dates are May 30-June 6, 2016. Costs are displayed on the Registration Page.
