MY EXCEPTIONAL STORY
Learning about Mount Union
I first stepped on Mount Union’s campus when I attended Buckeye Girls State in high school. Choosing to attend Mount Union was a last minute decision. In my experience, Mount is different from other universities because they truly care. They have so many programs and services set up to see us succeed. If you need anything, Mount has it.
What I like the most about Mount Union is that I can be involved in so many things. I don’t have to choose just one.
Favorite Spot on Campus
My favorite place is the library. I love finding quiet spots to study, and I spend most of my night (and early morning) in the KHIC café.
Preparing for the Future
Mount helps me prepare for the future in so many different ways. The Center for Student Success helps me plan for graduate school and create a strong resume. My specific departments are adamant on connecting me with people in my fields and alerting me about internship opportunities.
Leaving a Legacy
I want people to look at my majors and be inspired to follow their passions; I want them to carve their own path rather than feeling pressured to fit society’s mold. My best advice for prospective students is to listen to your heart. We have so many people to guide us in the right direction, but at the end of the day, you have to do what makes you the happiest.
Choosing the Right Majors
I am majoring in math because I originally wanted to become an actuary, but after my career plans changed, I kept it as a major because I couldn't imagine a semester without math. I was originally a finance major as well, but switched to accounting three weeks into my Financial Accounting class because I absolutely loved the material.
My majors are not really hands-on, but my favorite way to work out math problems is on a white board. It really allows you to look at the problem from afar, and, if you mess up, it’s easier to correct your mistakes. My favorite class so far is Advanced Math and Number Theory. I enjoy it because it is very logic-based, and providing mathematical theorems is like solving a puzzle.
Dr. Cook in music and Professor Pogacnik in accounting are my favorite professors. Dr. Cook does everything in his power to support the men and women who make up the choral program, both inside and outside the music departments. He celebrates who we are and how we work together as a whole. Professor Pogacnik is the one who really pushed me to major in accounting. She worked with me to make sure I would graduate on time and really gave the time to look into my specific circumstances.
Benefits of an Interdisciplinary Education
I think I am a prime example of how important liberal arts are. Interdisciplinary education allows students to become well-rounded individuals, which is something Mount really strives for. Mount Union cares about providing its students with a meaningful life.
My ultimate goal is to work in fraud law. I'd really like to work on the forensic accounting side of fraud investigation, while using my law degree to prosecute white collar criminals.
Mount Union cares about providing its students with a meaningful life.
- Where is your favorite travel destination?
- So far it has been Florida. I went to Universal for vacation one summer, and then I went on a spring break service trip to Give Kids the World.
- If you could have lunch with anyone, who would you choose and why?
- Emma Watson. Not only did she play my all-time favorite character (Hermione Granger), she is also an incredibly brilliant young woman.
- If you could try out any job for a day, what would it be and why?
- I would love to be a chef for a day. I love to cook, but am way to scared to try to live off a chef’s salary for the rest of my life.
- What three songs define your music tastes?
- Für Elise by Beethoven, Wildest Dreams by Taylor Swift, and Radioactive by Imagine Dragons
