Renowned Pianist Mortensen To Perform at Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio - Dr. John Mortensen, a professor of piano at Cedarville University, will perform at the University of Mount Union on Friday, November 3 at 7:30 p.m. in Presser Recital Hall of Cope Music Hall.

Mortensen received his doctorate in performance art from the University of Maryland where he studied with Anne Koscielny and Raymond Hanson. He has a National Certification in Piano through the Music Teacher’s National Association and he is a Steinway Artist.

Mortensen is a pianist, improviser, educator and author. He performs at colleges and universities internationally and he is known for his ability to improvise Baroque compositions including prelude and fugues. In his teaching at Cedarville, he emphasizes developing courses that bring back improvisation.

His performance at Mount Union will feature some of his improvisational skills.

Mortensen will hold a masterclass before the performance at 5 p.m. in Presser Recital Hall. Both events are free and open to the community.
