Robert Mahoney to Present Commencement Address

Robert W. Mahoney, chairman emeritus of the board of Diebold, Incorporated and a member of the Mount Union Board of Trustees, will present this year’s Commencement address on Saturday, May 8.
Mahoney joined Diebold in 1982 as corporate senior vice president of electronics, where he was responsible for the company’s automatic banking systems and electronics engineering groups. Shortly thereafter, he was elected to the board of directors and named executive vice president and chief operating officer. In 1985, he was elected president and chief executive officer and in 1988, he was elected chairman of the board.
Prior to joining the staff at Diebold, Mahoney served as president of NCR Canada Ltd., where he was in charge of the company’s activities throughout Canada. He also held management positions with NCR, both in the United States and the Far East.
A member of the board of directors of The Timken Company and The Sherwin-Williams Company, he also serves on the boards of the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges, Manufacturers Alliance, Canton Junior Achievement and the Professional Football Hall of Fame. In addition, Mahoney is a member of the Stark Development Board, Chamber of Commerce Leadership Stark County Advisory Board and Brookside County Club.
A native of New York, Mahoney earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial administration from Villanova University and a master of business administration degree from Roosevelt University.
Mount Union will hold its 164th Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 8 at 11 a.m. on the south lawn of Chapman Hall.
