April 22, 2010

Mount Union College is holding "Parents' Day" on Saturday, November 3. This annual event allows Mount Union College parents to experience "college for a day." This year's theme is "We're Having a Party."

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Campus Grounds of the Hoover-Price Campus Center. The activities begin at 9:15 a.m. with "Parents 100" sessions, educational presentations modeled after the first-year experience class that all Mount Union students attend. Dr. Annette Cryder, Director of Counseling Services, will present "Navigating a Sea of Change," a group discussion on how families change when children go to college and information on how to approach reunions on weekends and breaks. At 10 a.m., Rosemary Bienz, Director of the Academic Support Center, will present "The Finals Countdown," a discussion of what students need to accomplish before the final exam period begins and what role parents can play in helping students stay focused academically through their final exams.

From 10 a.m. through 2 p.m., parents and their students can get a free caricature drawing in the Hoover-Price Campus Center lobby. The drawings, by "Big Smile Caricatures and Entertainment, are sponsored by the Student Activities Office.

A pre-game brunch and tailgate party will be held at 11:30 a.m. in the Dining Hall.

The annual Legacy Luncheon will also be held at 11:30 a.m. in the Campus Grounds. The luncheon, which is hosted by the Alumni Association, is for Mount Union alumni and their children who are current students. Remarks will be made by senior Adam Anderson and his father, James Anderson, class of 1969, of Chardon.

Following lunch, parents and students can attend the football game where the Purple Raiders take on Baldwin-Wallace College at 1:30 p.m. After the game, the Alumni Association hosts a post-game reception in the Campus Grounds. There will be refreshments and the Kool Nights Band of Alliance, sponsored by the Student Activities Office, will provide the entertainment.
