ALLIANCE, Ohio - Mount Union students wishing to pursue a career in early childhood and middle childhood education now have the opportunity to apply for The Jill Herrick Scholarship.

Established in 2000, the scholarship is being provided by Herrick in honor and memory of her parents, Ruth and Clay Herrick.

Applicants should have a strong desire to enter the classroom and make a difference in students' lives. They must also be of good academic standing, representative of a good citizen of campus and at least sophomore standing.

The award recipient(s) will be chosen by the head of the Education Department, the dean of the college and the director of student financial services.

Applications are available from the secretary of the Education Department and must be completed by April 1, 2001.

Herrick graduated from Mount Union in 1965 and went on to enjoy a career of elementary education in the Berea School System. She was also instrumental in republishing a pictorial history of Cleveland that was originally introduced by her father.
