Scholarships to be Offered to Attend UMU's Experience Engineering Summer Program

January 24, 2018

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Experience Engineering Summer Program (EESP) held by the University of Mount Union is offering scholarships to students from underrepresented populations. Scholarships will go toward the $795 cost to attend the EESP.

Thanks to The Mary Renkert Wendling Foundation, the Department of Engineering received a $25,000 grant to assist members of underrepresented groups.

“This generous gift by the Mary Renkert Wendling Foundation will literally provide access to the exciting worlds of engineering for deserving students who otherwise could not afford the summer program,” said Dr. Osama Jadaan, professor and chair of the Department of Engineering at Mount Union. “This is an impactful gift with the potential of changing lives while helping diversify the engineering work place.”

The camp centers around the five areas of engineering offered at Mount Union: biomedical, computer, electrical, and the ABET-accredited programs in civil and mechanical engineering.

The program offers high school sophomores, juniors, seniors and recent graduates who are interested in pursuing a degree in engineering a chance to learn about six areas of studies in state-of-the-art labs. The attendees will spend one week living on campus receiving hands-on experience in computer, biomedical, electrical, environmental, mechanical and civil engineering.

Students will experience mentorships from faculty and students in the Department of Engineering along with learning about the entrepreneurial aspects of engineering.

Taking part in EESP allows the students to waive the EGE 110: Intro to Engineering course should they choose to attend Mount Union for college.

The students not only learn about the engineering field, they also experience what it is like to be a college student and to live on campus.

The program will take place June 17- 23, 2018.
