Shakespeare at the Castle to Present “Taming of the Shrew”

ALLIANCE, Ohio – “Shakespeare at the Castle,” the second annual theatre festival performed live on the grounds of the iconic Glamorgan Castle in Alliance, will take place July 23-26. This year’s presentation will feature Shakespeare’s “Taming of the Shrew.”
Grounds will open at 5:45 p.m. for picnicking and pre-show entertainment will begin at 6 p.m. prior to the 7 p.m. show time. Approximate run time of the show is two hours. A catering truck from Rhyne’s Junction will be available for food purchase or attendees may bring their own picnic.
Ticket prices are $18 in advance or $20 at the door per person for general admission; $12 in advance or $15 at the door for ages 12 and under and $8 in advance or $10 at the door for bleacher seats. Blanket seating is available for $5 for those who bring a blanket or low-profile lawn chair.
The production will include local performers as well as out of town professionals. Cast members include Gary Lamb of Los Angeles, CA as Petruchio; Jeff Wallach of Los Angeles, CA as Gremio and Director of the Greenshow; Thom Hofrichter of Fort Wayne, IN as Baptista and Scott Douglas Wilson of Fort Lauderdale, FL as Tranio. Eric Benjamin will lead a group of madrigal singers for this season’s production.
Grant funds have been secured from the Greater Alliance Foundation, the Stark Community Foundation and the University of Mount Union. Also supporting the production are the City of Alliance and the Alliance City Schools.
Rain location for the event is the Giese Center for the Fine and Performing Arts on the Mount Union campus. Tickets may be purchased online at mountunion.edu/Shakespeare.
