Soles4Souls Community-Wide Shoe Drive is Underway at Mount Union
October 14, 2009
Mount Union’s chapter of Fellowship for Christian Athletes has partnered with Soles4Souls, a non-profit charitable organization that donates shoes world-wide to tho
se in need.
On Wednesday, October 14, students were encouraged to walk around campus barefoot to raise awareness for this project, Raider Relief.
Beginning Tuesday, October 20, three collection sites will be set up on campus to collect new or gently used shoes. All types of shoes will be accepted including athletic shoes, dress shoes, work boots, rain boots, cleats, dance shoes and flip flops. The donation boxes will be located in the Hoover-Price Campus Center, Gulling Training Center and the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
Purple shoelaces will also be sold for $2 to help offset the cost of shipping the shoes to those in need.
In addition to the collection on campus, a shoe drive will be held at the Mount Union Purple Raiders’ football game against Otterbein College on Saturday, November 7 at 1:30 p.m. Both monetary and shoe donations will be accepted. Fans donating a pair of shoes will receive a free ticket to the final regular season home game against Marietta College on November 14.
