Student Debate to Be Held March 31

A student debate will be held Tuesday, March 31 at 5:30 p.m. in Chapman Hall Room 202 at Mount Union College. The topic for the debate will be “Resolved that Election Strategies that Focus on Culture War Issues (abortion, gay marriage, etc.) should be discontinued.”
Students arguing for the resolution will be Kaley Smitley, Desiree Palla and Ryan Hill. Those arguing against the resolution will be Carly Skidmore, Nathan Trimboli and Gurpreet Singh.
John Frazier, vice president for student affairs and dean of students, will provide the introduction. Dr. Lee Gray, professor of geology, will serve as moderator. Dr. Rodney Dick, assistant professor of English and director of the Writing Center, will be the chief scorer and judge. Judges for the debate include Theresa Davis, instructor of history; Dr. Fendrich Clark, assistant professor of communication; Dr. William Cunion, assistant professor of political science; and Dr. Michael Myler, professor of economics, accounting and business administration. Prizes will be awarded to the winning students by Dr. James Thomas, professor of human performance and sport business and associate dean of the College.
This event is free and open to the public. The student debate is organized annually by Dr. Santosh Saha, professor of history.
