Student Debate to Be Held November 13 at Mount Union College

A student debate will be held Monday, November 13 at 5:30 p.m. in Chapman Hall Room 111 at Mount Union College.


The topic for debate will be 'Resolved that all illegal immigrants must be deported and tight border security be maintained in order to maintain American national security and identity.'

Dr. Patricia Draves, vice president of academic affairs and dean of Mount Union College, will provide the introduction. Dr. Martin Horning, professor of economics, accounting and business administration at Mount Union will serve as chairman and moderator. Judges for the debate include Mount Union faculty members Dr. Mary Eicholtz, assistant professor of communication; Dr. Clara Becerra, assistant professor of foreign languages; Robert Garland, director of libraries; Fendrich Clark, assistant professor of communication; Dr. Scott Gravlee, associate professor of philosophy and religious studies and Dr. Ernest Pratt, associate professor of education. Peter Yacobucci from Walsh University also will serve as a judge and Dr. Rodney Dick, assistant professor of English at Mount Union, will serve as chief judge and scorer.

Schools participating in the debate include Walsh, Ashland University and Mount Union.

Cash prizes will be awarded with the first place winner receiving $70, the second place honoree receiving $60 and the third place recipient receiving $50. A team prize, sponsored by the Mount Union Office of Alumni and College Activities, also will be awarded. Certificates will be presented to all participants.

This event is free and open to the public.

The student debate is organized annually by Dr. Santosh Saha, professor of history at Mount Union.
