Student Diversity Council hosts Diversity Awards

ALLIANCE, Ohio – On Sunday, April 28, the University of Mount Union’s Student Diversity Council, in collaboration with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, hosted the annual Diversity Awards Dinner. The awards dinner included a diversity update and a presentation from Rich Jackson. In addition, they recognized outstanding members of their respective organizations who excel in supporting the diversity efforts at the University of Mount Union as well as the presentation of the Diversity and Inclusion Award.
The Association of International Students, Association of Women Students, Black Student Union, Gay Straight Alliance, Hispanic Organization/Latino Americans, Spiritual Life Leadership and See The Ability Not Disability are the student organizations that make up the Diversity Council.
Winners of the Student Organization Member of the Year included:
Association of International Students – Mika Fukumitsu, a freshman of Osaka, Japan
Association of Women Students – Alie Johnston, a senior religious studies major of Lake Milton, OH
Black Student Union – Joshua Scott, a physical education major of Hamilton, OH
Gay Straight Alliance – Rachael Hagey, a junior early childhood education major of Mentor, OH
Hispanic Organization Latino Americans – Ivan Ayala, a sophomore political science major of Sterling, VA
Spiritual Life Leadership – Kelly Slutz, a senior Spanish and sociology major of Orrville, OH
See The Ability Not Disability – Caroline Keller, a senior interdisciplinary studies major of Toledo, OH
The Diversity and Inclusion Award was presented to Dr. Ivory Lyons, professor of philosophy and religious studies, for his support of diversity efforts on campus.
