Student Katy Alkire Presents Case Study
July 3, 2012
Katy Alkire, a junior athletic training major at the University of Mount Union, presented her poster on her case study, "Dazed and Confused: The Lasting Effects of Post-Concussion Syndrome" at the Ohio Athletic Trainer's Association Annual Meeting held in May. She was sponsored by Morgan Cooper Bagley, Director of Mount Union's CAATE Accredited Athletic Training Education Program.
Katy's project was a case study on an athlete who suffered a concussion in October of 2010 and is still experiencing the symptoms from the concussion today. Her poster described the effects of post-concussion syndrome, how the athlete is still suffering symptoms, why the athlete's symptoms have lasted as long as they have and how this is very dangerous. Katy also explained why the athlete can no longer play sports.
