Student Loans for 2012-2013

Important Information about the Federal Stafford Loan Program

The Office of Student Financial Services at the University of Mount Union participates in the Federal Direct Loan Program (DL).  If you receive financial aid from Mount Union and you are eligible for federal loans, you will need to complete the following steps.

New Borrowers (Stafford Loan) –

1. Complete the 2012-2013 FAFSA.
2. Complete Direct Lending Stafford Entrance Counseling at www.studentloans.gov.
3. Complete the Direct Loan Stafford Master Promissory Note (MPN) online at www.studentloans.gov.
4. Return the DL Stafford Loan Request Form (found under our Forms section) to the Office of Student Financial Services

Repeat Borrowers (Stafford Loan) –

1. Complete the 2012-2013 FAFSA.
2. Submit the DL Stafford Loan Request Form (found under our Forms section) to the Office of Student Financial Services

New Borrowers (Parent or Graduate Loan) –

1. Complete the 2012-2013 FAFSA.
2. Complete the Direct Loan Stafford Master Promissory Note (MPN) online at www.studentloans.gov.
3. Return the DL Parent (or Graduate) Plus Loan Request Form (found under our Forms section) to the Office of Student Financial Services

Repeat Borrowers Stafford Loan Borrowers –

1. Complete the 2012-2013 FAFSA.
2. Submit the DL Parent (or Graduate) Plus Loan Request Form (found under our Forms section) to the Office of Student Financial Services

What is the Federal Direct Loan Program?

Students who apply for financial aid are reviewed for all types of aid for which they may be eligible. One of the largest federal aid programs is comprised of loans such as the Federal Subsidized and Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, Federal Parent PLUS Loan, and Federal Graduate PLUS Loan. The lender for these federal loan programs is the U.S. Federal Government as supported by the U.S. Treasury.
