Sue and Daniel Hanson to Present Convocation at Mount Union College

Sue and Daniel S. Hanson will speak at a Mount Union College convocation on Thursday, October 5 at 10:30 a.m. in Presser Recital Hall.

During their presentation the Hanson's, whose son Joel was diagnosed with schizophrenia as a young adult will discuss the illness in further detail. They will also share their perspective of this specific illness from a family's point of view and how they have learned to deal with and accept Joel's situation.

Dan was previously a corporate executive of 30 years who left his role to pursue a career in writing. He previously wrote a book about his son Joel and the struggles and tribulations that his family went through. Room for J: A Family Struggles With Schizophrenia was published in 2004. He is also the author of A Place to Shine: Emerging from the Shadows at Work, and Cultivating Common Ground: Releasing the Power of Relationships at Work, and a contributing author to 12 Step Wisdom at Work: Transforming Your Life and Your Organization.

Dan earned a bachelor of arts degree from Augsburg College and a master of arts degree from the University of Minnesota. He is a communications professor at Augsburg College.

Sue is the currently the chairperson of the legislative committee for the National Alliance on Mental Illness in Minnesota.

The convocation is being sponsored by Mount Union's Department of Psychology.
