Sylvester Green Is New Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Mount Union College

Green, a 1964 graduate of Mount Union, is the CEO and chairman for e2Value, Inc., a web-based property valuation company that provides digital solutions to the insurance industry. He recently retired as managing director and executive vice president for Chubb & Son, Inc., the Global Property and Casualty Company. Green was responsible for Chubb's United States and Canadian operations.
Green began his 36-year career at Chubb as a management trainee in 1964, and during the next five years he became known as an expert casualty underwriter and dealmaker for the firm. He later became the regional casualty underwriting manager for Chubb's East Coast business. In 1974, Green became of Chubb's youngest branch managers when he opened and managed a new office for the company in Westchester County, New York. Eight years later, Green returned to New York City to manage the downtown office for Chubb, which has been the company's flagship office for over 25 years.
Upon completing Harvard's Advance Management Program in 1988, Green became a catalyst for the company's ongoing total quality management program. Green received the "Best Branch" award for several consecutive years and became senior vice president in 1988.
In 1990, he was named managing director. In 1997, he assumed responsibilities for the firm's United States and Canadian Field Operations and was elected executive vice president.
Green is also chairman of the board for INROADS, a member of the Executive Leadership Council. He has served as an advisory board member for Florida A&M University and Emory Business School.
Green serves on the board of Fairfield University and is past board chairman for the United Way of Westchester, Westchester County Urban League, Urban Family Institute and INROADS New York City.
He has been the recipient of many awards including the Mount Union Alumni Service Award in 1996 and the M-Club Award of Excellence, the Frank C. Carr Community Service Award, and the Westchester Urban League Community Service Award, and was named a Heartshare Community Leader Honoree.
He succeeds Haupt, who has guided the College to unprecedented enrollment and endowment growth during his time as chairman, is a director and chairman of the corporate section of Krugliak, Wilkins, Griffiths & Dougherty Co., L.P.A. with offices in Canton, Alliance and New Philadelphia. During Haupt's time as chairman of the College's Board, the College's enrollment has grown from 1,344 to over 2,300 and the endowment has gone from $40 million to $126 million. Moreover, during the past 10 years, the College has added or renovated 330,000 square feet of buildings.
An Alliance native and 1963 graduate of Mount Union College, Haupt earned his juris doctor degree from Western Reserve University School of Law, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif legal honorary. Haupt is a member of the Stark County Bar Association and the Ohio State Bar Association, serving on the Corporate Law Sections of both groups. He is also a member of the National Health Care Lawyers Association and is a Fellow of the Ohio Bar Foundation.
Haupt practices primarily in the health care, professional, general corporate, real estate and estate planning areas of the law. He speaks frequently to professional and civic groups on health care and general corporate issues, small business law, estate planning and real estate law.
Haupt, a 1963 Mount Union graduate, has been a member of the Mount Union College Board of Trustees since 1978 and served several years as a member of the Executive Committee for Mount Union prior to his becoming Chairman of the Board. In 1997, he received the Alumni Service Award from Mount Union.
Active in community affairs, he is past president and board member of the Jackson-Belden Chamber of Commerce, and received the 1997 Outstanding Chamber Member Award. He is also past chairman of the Jackson-Belden Food Fest Committee. He was chairman of the board of directors of the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, past chairman of the Hall of Fame Festival Enshrinees Civic Dinner Committee and past president of Congress Lake Club. He is also a member of the Buckeye Council of the Boy Scouts of America, a member of the Jackson Township YMCA Committee, and is chairman of the major sponsor committee for the Wilderness Center Auction and Dinner. In addition, he is a member of the Regional Board of Sky Bank.
