Take Back the Night Returns to Mount Union
October 12, 2015
ALLIANCE, Ohio - A variety of events will take place on campus next week as Take Back the Night (TBTN) returns to Mount Union.
Events will take place Monday, October 12 and Tuesday, October 13. The main presenters will speak at 7 p.m. in the Brush Performance Hall.
Monday will feature a presentation from Dustin Lehmann and Leah Howell. Howell currently serves as the program manager for Fraternity and Sorority Life at the University of Cincinnati. Lehmann, a combat veteran of both Iraq and Afghanistan, serves as the CEO and founder of The Leadership Group (TLG), which seeks to further the education of masculinity, safety, equality, bullying and identity.
A speak out rally will occur directly after the presentations.
“A speak out rally is a walk that allows sexual and/or domestic violence survivors and their advocates to ‘speak out’ against their abuser,” said Kyle Fowler, graduate assistant for Student Involvement and Leadership. “They can share their story and encouraging words.”
Tuesday’s event is a more interactive session. The two presenters will split the audience into male-identifying and female-identifying groups. They will talk in those groups for about 45 minutes. The two groups will then come back together to conclude the program.
The Clothesline Project will also take place next week. For this project, statistics about relationship and sexual violence will be painted on T-shirts and hung in the hallway of the Hoover-Price Campus Center leading to the dining hall.
