The Nature Center Offers “Staycation” Opportunities for Families
July 17, 2009
The John T. Huston-Dr. John D. Brumbaugh Nature Center has joined the nation-wide Nature Rocks initiative to encourage parents to spend time outdoors as a family.
The Nature Center will hold its first “staycation” event in the North Woods on July 25 from 1 to 3 p.m.
The North Woods provides an interactive area for children to play and discover. Backpacks and nature exploration tools can be checked out at the Visitors Center.
“Families are looking for affordable options for their children this summer and nothing is better and more accessible for quality family time than activities in nature,” said Charleen Race, academic outreach coordinator for the Nature Center. “A growing body of research indicates that children are happier, healthier and smarter when they get regular opportunities to play and explore nature.”

The Nature Center is located six miles south of Mount Union College on Daniel Street, just off of Route 183. The Visitors Center is open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The Nature Center is closed on Mondays.
