The Otto Family
Born April 20, 1932, Eric (Jim) earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount Union in 1956, majoring in Sociology. While a student, Jim was a member of Student Senate, Mount Union Players and Interfraternity Council.
Born April 28, 1934, Sally earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount Union in 1956, majoring in Psychology and English. During her time at Mount Union, Sally was an active member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She was also a member of Student Counselor, Mount Union Players, Choir and Mount Union Concert Choir. Sally received honors of Mu Delta Tau and Lauriger. Sally passed away April 11, 2016.
Jim is a retired sales representative at Medtronic, Inc. Medtronic, Inc. is a global healthcare solutions company committed to improving the lives of people through medical technologies, services and solutions.
Sally was a retired teacher from St. Raphael School in Bay Village, OH. St. Raphael School provides an opportunity to choose an education where the Gospel message is infused throughout the curriculum. Student enrollment is kindergarten through eighth grade.
Mount Union Involvement:
Even while attending Mount Union, Jim and Sally were active volunteers within the campus community. Jim and Sally met while serving on a committee for a play. They first connected at the bottom of the stairs in the Chapman Hall lobby and have been together ever since.
Jim and Sally were members of the Class of 1956 Scholarship Committee. The committee met to plan their 50-year celebration and decided to ask classmates to collectively raise $20,000 to fund a scholarship. The scholarship would be awarded each year to a deserving Mount Union student in the name of the Class of 1956.
Sally also donated her time to Mount Union’s Alumni Council from 2006-2011.
Along with being active volunteers, Jim and Sally have been consistent supporters of the Mount Union Fund since 1985 and support the 1846 Society at the Founder’s Club level.
In honor of their lifetime gifts, Jim and Sally are members of the Forever Mount Society. The Forever Mount Society recognizes committed donors who have made gifts to the University of Mount Union for 25 years or more.
Jim and Sally recently and generously contributed to the new Giese Center for the Performing Arts. The lobby and gallery are named in their honor as the Jim and Sally Otto Lobby and Sally Otto Art Gallery.
Jim resides in Bay Village, Ohio and he and Sally were married on July 21, 1956. They have two grown children, Eric and Timothy.
