Two Receive Davidson Staff Award at Mount Union

December 22, 2011

The University of Mount Union has named Janice Williams, secretary for the Center for Student Success, and Tom Wise, lab manager of Bracy Hall of Science, as the inaugural recipients of the Elizabeth W. and Joseph K. Davidson Staff Award.
The Elizabeth W. and Joseph K. Davidson Staff Award was established in 2007 by Dr. Elizabeth Davidson ’64 and her husband, Joseph. The award was created to recognize and reward exceptional effort and accomplishment among Mount Union’s staff employees. The award recipient is selected based on the nominee’s exemplification of his or her commitment to Mount Union, representation as an ambassador of the institution, customer service to the University community, overall work ethic and the ability to interact with students, faculty and staff.
A member of the Mount Union staff since 2008, Williams has worked passionately for the past three and half years in the Student Success Center on campus.
“Janice is as purple as one can get! She, in her personal network, encourages high school students to take a look at Mount Union and often engages with the parents and students outside of the office who are on a campus tour,” said one nominator. “She genuinely cares about the students and makes every effort to facilitate best practices. She is invested in learning and has embraced conferences, workshops and webinars available to her.”
Wise has served as lab manager of Bracy Hall since 2004. He assists biology labs, supervises work-study students and maintains the many areas in Bracy including the greenhouse, animal room and public displays, among other duties.
“Tom interacts well with students and faculty and is often called to help students in their research when needed. He even went beyond his job description to teach one of Mount Union’s introductory biology labs one semester,” said one nominator. “Tom has been a great ambassador for Mount Union to the community and beyond. His active involvement is influential in the success of past District Science Fairs on campus.
