UMU Experts Talk to Discuss Party Politics’ Role in Heated 2016 Election

ALLIANCE, Ohio – During the peak of the political primary season, the University of Mount Union will be hosting a UMU Experts presentation Monday,March 14 from 6-7 p.m. in Tolerton and Hood Hall, Room 100.

The talk, titled, “The 2016 Elections: The Demise of the Republican and Democratic Parties?” will be given by Dr. Jack DeSario, professor of political science and director of the pre-law professional program at Mount Union.

DeSario has run more than 100 candidate and issue elections throughout Ohio. He has also served as a political analyst for WUAB Channel 43 and WKYC Channel 3 and was appointed to the position of Chair of the Ohio Ethics Commission by former U.S. Senator George Voinovich from 1992-97.

The talk will come less than 24 hours before polls open across Ohio for the Presidential and state primary elections. It will also be featured four days after NBC News political director and “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd delivers the Schooler Lecture on Mount Union’s campus on Thursday, March 10.

Also occurring March 10-11 will be “The Barack Obama Presidency: Legacy and Record” conference on Mount Union’s campus. The conference will feature guest speakers from colleges across the country, focusing on different aspects of President Obama’s tenure in office.

The presentation is intended to be informative and educational for those seeking more information before heading out to the polls on March 15. The presentation will also feature a public question and answer for the final half hour of the allotted time.

The event is free and open to the public and refreshments will be provided.
