University of Mount Union Highlights of 2016

  1. Mount Union Featured on ABC “Nightline” – The University of Mount Union was recently featured on ABC News’ Nightline.
  2. Up ‘Til Dawn Raises Nearly $460,000 in Eight Years – Members of the University of Mount Union community attended the Up ‘til Dawn (UTD) finale for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital from 11:30 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Saturday.

  3. Mount Union, Stark State Continue Partnership with Engineering Articulation - The University of Mount Union and Stark State College continued to help students further their education by signing the second in its series of articulation agreements.

  4. Chuck Todd Disusses the Rise of Presidential Candidates at Schooler LectureChuck Todd, NBC News political director and host of “Meet the Press” and “MTP Daily,” spoke at the University of Mount Union’s Schooler lecture this past Thursday, March 10.

  5. Keller Takes Home $5000 Prize at IdeaLabs Competition – University of Mount Union senior Brad Keller ’16, a marketing major, of Findlay, Ohio, took home the $5000 prize for finishing first in the Entrepreneurship Education Consortium (EEC) IdeaLabs business idea competition held at John Carroll University on Thursday, March 31.

  6. Dr. Grant Cook Named 2016 Mount Union Great Teacher - During the University Mount Union’s Honors Convocation and Senior Awards presentation held recently, Dr. Grant Cook, professor of music and director of choral activities, was presented with the prestigious Great Teacher Award.

  7. 2016 Outstanding Senior Woman and Man Named – Mackenzie Shivers and Daniel Pritchard were named 2016 Outstanding Senior Woman and Man during the University of Mount Union’s Honors Convocation and Senior Recognition Ceremony held last week.

  8. 170th Commencement Ceremony Held at Mount Union – More than 487 graduate and undergraduate students participated in the University of Mount Union’s 170th Commencement Ceremony held Saturday, May 7 in the Peterson Field House of the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

  9. Three-Peat: Mount Union Wins 3rd Straight OAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament Title - Mount Union weathered a couple lightning delays and rallies from Capital to win its third straight Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Tournament title, 10-6, Saturday night at Mount Union Stadium.
  10. Mount Union Announces Launch of Spectrum Education Center – The University of Mount Union is pleased to announce the launch of the Spectrum Education Center.

  11. UMU Students and Faculty Present at San Diego Experimental Biology Conference – Members of University of Mount Union science programs were chosen to present at the Experimental Biology Conference in San Diego, California this past April.
  12. Mount Union’s Nursing Program Receives CCNE Accreditation – The University of Mount Union’s Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) program has received accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

  13. Mount Union Athletics Social Media Most Followed in NCAA Division III - No other NCAA Division III athletic program has more followers/likes on social media sites than the University of Mount Union.

  14. Mount Union 43rd in 2015-16 Learfield Directors Cup Standings; Highest Ranked OAC Team - Mount Union is 43rd in the nation in the final 2015-16 Learfield Sports Directors Cup NCAA Division III standings.  The Purple Raiders are the highest ranked NCAA Division III team in the Ohio Athletic Conference and second-best ranked team in the state.
  15. Mount Union Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program Receives CAPTE Candidate For Accreditation Status – The University of Mount Union’s Doctorate of Physical Therapy (PT) program has received candidate for accreditation status from the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy (CAPTE) effective August 5, 2016.

  16. Student Interns from DNC, RNC Speak During UMU Votes Panel – On Tuesday, The University of Mount Union hosted a panel titled “UMU Votes.” The panel featured five students who interned this summer at the Democratic National Convention and the Republican National Convention.

  17. Mount Union Ranked a Top College by U.S. News and World Report for 26th Consecutive Year – Continuing its tradition of excellence, the University of Mount Union was ranked as a top college by U.S. News and World Report for the 26th consecutive year.

  18. Azar Nafisi Inspires at 2016 Eckler Lecture - On Tuesday, September 20, Azar Nafisi, a national bestselling author and professor of aesthetics culture and literature presented at the annual Eckler Lecture in the Brush Performance Hall of the Giese Center for the Performing Arts. 

  19. M Club Inducts 2016 Hall of Fame ClassThis year’s inductees include Adrianne Cole ’01 (softball), Matt Domin ’01 (football), Adam Marino ’01 (football), Kenya Shipp ’00 (track and field), Gary Smeck ’01 (football) and Kelly (Roach ’01) Snyder (volleyball).

  20. University of Mount Union Featured in “The Princeton Review’s Guide to 361 Green Colleges: 2016 Edition”The University of Mount Union is one of the 361 most environmentally responsible colleges in the country according to the Princeton Review (www.PrincetonReview.com). The Princeton Review chose the schools for this seventh annual edition of its "green guide" based on data from the company's 2015-16 survey of hundreds of four-year colleges concerning the schools' commitments to the environment and sustainability.

  21. Mount Union Takes Home “Battle of the Brains” Prize – A team comprised of four University of Mount Union freshmen and one junior took home first place in the College Club of Canton’s (COC) first annual “Battle of the Brains” competition Thursday night at Glenoak High School.

  22. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to Present Schooler Lecture at the University of Mount Union – The University of Mount Union is proud to announce that Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer, six-time NBA champion and three-time NCAA champion Kareem Abdul-Jabbar will present the annual Schooler Lecture Tuesday, April 4, 2017 in the Timken Gymnasium of the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

  23. Mount Union, Stark State Continue Partnership with NSFIA - The University of Mount Union and Stark State College continued to help students further their education by signing the third in its series of articulation agreements. There are currently three signed agreements, soon to be seven.

  24. Mount Union Recognized as 2015 Tree Campus USA – For the sixth consecutive year, the University of Mount Union has been recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation as a 2015 Tree Campus USA for its commitment to effective urban forest management.

  25. Mount Union Unveils Online-Exclusive MAEL Program – For the first time in its storied academic history, the University of Mount Union is offering a strictly online degree through its Master of Arts in Educational Leadership (MAEL) program.

  26. Mount Union Women’s Soccer Wins OAC Tournament for First-Ever NCAA Tourney Berth – An overtime goal by senior Carolyn Balzano (Poland/Poland Seminary) led third seed Mount Union to a 2-1 upset win over top-seeded Ohio Northern in the championship game of the 2016 Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament Saturday in Ada.
  27. Retired Congressman Ralph Regula Celebrates the Students on his 92nd BirthdayA 92nd birthday celebration to honor retired Congressman Ralph Regula was held Friday, December 2 at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. The evening featured special guest Senator Rob Portman and a video message from Governor John Kasich, as well as a preview of the upcoming PBS documentary of the life and times of Congressman Ralph Regula and fellowship with the Regula family.

  28. Alumni Help Establish President's Rescue Fund for Mount StudentsThis year, alumni worked in tandem with the Office of Advancement, the Office of Enrollment Management, and the Office of the President to create the President’s Rescue Fund, an account specifically designed to help students remain at the University of Mount Union to complete their degrees.
