Up ‘til Dawn Raises Nearly $460,000 in Eight Years

February 23, 2016

ALLIANCE, OH – Members of the University of Mount Union community attended the Up ‘til Dawn (UTD) finale for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital from 11:30 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Saturday.

UTD is a nationwide collegiate organization that fundraises and collects donations for St. Jude. Mount Union’s UTD executive board has been on campus since 2008 and has raised just under $460,000 in the past eight years. Mount Union has been in the top 10 fundraising school in the nation for St. Jude several times since 2008 and received the “Rookie of the Year Award” from St. Jude in 2008 as well.

“I am honored to be a part of an organization on campus that has raised over $400,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in the past eight years,” said Alyssa Haley, junior executive member.

This year, UTD started in November when the campus community participated in letter writing and sending emails to family and friends. This helped raise awareness for the organization and raised money for UTD. Students were also encouraged to post donation links on their social media accounts.

Fundraising has continued since the fall and culminated with the finale event on February 20. Throughout the finale, the UTD executive board planned games such as relay races and bingo, had a photo booth and paired up with Raider Programming Board’s coffeehouse to keep the more than 200 students who attended awake throughout the night. Participants could win a variety of items including St. Jude Headphones and St. Jude water bottles. Those who stayed the whole time had the chance to win a $200 Visa gift card.

By the end of the night, the UTD executive board announced that $44,580.15 was raised this year. The executive board still encourages students and faculty to donate to UTD so they can reach their goal of $70,000.

“It was a great success and we’re very grateful for all of the support we had from the Mount Union community,” said Haley.

Applications for the 2016-2017 UTD executive board will go out in March, so those interested in being a part of the board or participating in the program next year can email uptildawn@mountunion.edu.

“We can’t wait to get started next year so that we can put that fundraising total over the half-million dollar mark,” said Up ‘til Dawn advisor Jesse Cunion.
