Why did you choose to pursue your degree?
I’m pursuing my passions. I came to Mount Union with no idea what I wanted to major in, let alone what I should do with my life after college. After taking a few classes in physics, I realized that I really love learning about how the world works, and that I love sharing my passion for physics with others. Along with physics, I really love music. I can’t imagine living a life without being involved in music in one form or another, so I decided to minor in music. I’m very lucky to be studying things that I truly enjoy.

What types of jobs are available for students who share your major?

Physics is a very versatile major. It gives you a wide range of knowledge about how the universe works and teaches you how to be an efficient problem solver. This prepares physics majors for many different types of jobs. Besides teaching and working in a laboratory, physics majors can become engineers or even go on to law school.

How will you use your degree upon graduation?
I plan to continue my studies of physics in graduate school with the hopes of becoming a college professor. I really enjoy learning and sharing what I learn with others, so I plan on going to graduate school with the hopes of becoming a professor.

What activities are you involved in?
I am involved in a lot of musical activities, including the Mount Union Choir, Marching Band, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble and Trumpet Ensemble. In addition, I am in the honorary band fraternity, Kappa Kappa Psi, which I represent in Student Senate.

What elements should a person possess in order to succeed in your major?

To succeed in physics, you need to enjoy solving problems and have a powerful curiosity about how things work. You also need patience because you will encounter some frustrating problems, but solving a difficult problem is so satisfying.
