ALLIANCE, Ohio - Lyric soprano Jane K. Dressler will present a lecture and recital entitled "Willa Cather: Her World of Music" Saturday, April 7 at 8 p.m. in Presser Recital Hall.

Dressler, an associate professor of voice at Kent State University, will present commentary and perform songs mentioned in the writings of Pulitzer prize-winning novelist Willa Cather.

This, her most recent project, Dressler premiered "Willa Cather: Her World of Music" in May 2000 at the International Cather Seminar in Nebraska City, Nebraska. It features a song cycle, My Antonia, based on the Cather novel, which Dressler commissioned from the American composer, Libby Larsen. It also received support from the National Endowment of the Arts, the Ohio Arts Council and the Nebraska Arts Council.

Linda Jones, pianist and coach of the Cleveland Institute of Music, will accompany Dressler. Also an adjunct faculty member in vocal coaching at the University of Akron School of Music, Jones' experience as coach, rehearsal pianist and assistant conductor has been with companies such as the Opera Theatre of St. Louis, the Santa Fe and Boston Opera Companies, the Dallas Civic Opera, The Washington Opera Society and the Julliard School of Music.

Following the recital, there will be an opportunity to ask questions about the project and a reception. The program is free and open to the public.
