Volunteer Training to be Held at the Nature Center

April 06, 2010

The John T. Huston-Dr. John D. Brumbaugh Nature Center of Mount Union College will hold a two day Volunteer Training session on Tuesday, March 20 and Wednesday, March 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Nature Center's Trail Guide Training helps participants develop the necessary skills to be comfortable as trail guides. Tuesday's session will discuss some of the elements of outdoor education and education in general. After lunch, which is provided, participants will have the opportunity to practice their skills by teaching one another. Participants should dress accordingly.

On Wednesday, current trail guides will discuss what they cover in their programs and participants will have an opportunity to sign up to observe some of them. After observing two programs led by trained guides and leading one program with the assistance of a trained guide, participants 'graduate' and may begin leading their own groups as often as their schedules permit.

Registration is required. The Nature Center is located six miles south of Mount Union College on Daniel Street, just off Route 183. For more information, contact the Nature Center at (330) 823-7487.
