Volunteers and Donations Needed for Annual Community Thanksgiving Meal
November 12, 2015
ALLIANCE, Ohio - The University of Mount Union’s Regula Center for Public Service and Civic Engagement is teaming up with The Salvation Army to hold a community Thanksgiving Meal from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 21.
The event will be held at the Alliance Salvation Army, located at 57 W. Main St in downtown Alliance. The meal is free and open to anyone who wishes to spend time with fellow community members. The menu consists of turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, yams, stuffing, green bean casserole, dinner rolls, salad, dessert and beverages.
“Our hope is to provide a hot Thanksgiving meal along with fun and fellowship to more than 500 people,” said Abby Honaker, assistant director of the Regula Center. “We can only do this with support from the community through monetary donations, donations of desserts and many volunteers.”
The annual Thanksgiving meal started as an event put on by a campus organization but has since been facilitated by the Regula Center. Typically, more than 60 volunteers, including Mount Union students, faculty, staff and community members, help put the event on.
