The Department of Education at the University of Mount Union boasts quality, nationally recognized licensure programs, and has earned full accreditation from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). We are proud of our outstanding faculty and staff and we are always impressed with our candidates as they graduate and become talented teachers and school leaders.
Our Department of Education is like a family: We care deeply about our candidates, and it shows. We spend countless hours meeting one-on-one for advising sessions and provide a supportive, accessible environment. We also work hard to ensure that candidates are earning teaching licenses that align well to their skill sets and interests. Many of our 13 licensure programs can be combined; the majority of our candidates earn multiple licenses in four years, like Early Childhood and Special Education, Physical Education and Health, or Middle Childhood and Special Education.
From the very first introductory course candidates take during their freshmen year, they work with mentor teachers in area school districts. We believe that it’s critically important for all of our candidates to spend significant time in P-12 districts each semester to help best prepare them for the field of education, and they get to see P-12 kids in elementary, middle, and high school settings. In fact, we hold several courses off-campus and in nearby P-12 buildings. Our close partnerships with districts in our region give our candidates the opportunity to work with real student achievement data, real kids, and real families. Many of our candidates develop such close relationships with our partner teachers and principals that they participate in extra opportunities to serve P-12 students that go beyond course requirements. For instance, our candidates often participate in after school tutoring, they volunteer at family science nights, and they support back-to-school bashes.
We are happy to share further information about our programs. Please schedule a campus visit today to meet our department’s faculty and candidates.
