Becoming a Raider
While being an Alliance native, I attended UMU while still in high school under dual enrollment to take classes. After seeing what Mount could offer, I knew this was the school for me. I chose Mount Union because of the amazing opportunities it could give me, and I have experienced plenty.
I have had an internship for four out of the seven semesters I have been enrolled and every summer in between. My favorite internship was this past summer at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. These experiences have changed my way of thinking and have prepared me for a successful life after UMU.
Academic Life at Mount
Due to the wide variety of classes available at Mount, I have been able to pursue my love of technology. At Mount, I’ve learned more than just what I’m taught in class. I’ve learned that being able to communicate effectively is a must for the technical fields that I hope to enter. My experience at Mount adds another dimension to developing those communication skills I need for the future.
Advice for Upcoming Freshman
Some advice I have for new Mount Union students, and this is a cliché saying, but college is about finding what speaks to you and what makes you happy in life. One quote that has inspired me through my years at Mount is, “Do today what you would leave for tomorrow.”
Road After Mount Union
Hopefully beyond Mount Union I will be able to pursue a graduate degree in systems engineering, which further exemplifies how gray the area between the technological systems we develop and our use of them has become. Eventually, I want to be an astronaut. Mount Union has given me the basic skills I will need to pursue this dream and taught me how to be a better learner both in the classroom and on my own.
