Early childhood education major

The professors and other peers make you feel like you belong and want to see you be successful, for yourself and this campus. I have opened up so much during my time here and I am grateful for Mount Union.

Finding Mount Union

I attended a college fair during my senior year of high school and talked to amazing representitives from Mount Union. They told me all about the extensive opportunities at UMU including study abroad, clubs, and academic advancement. That one conversation sold me on Mount Union because they made me feel like I mattered to them. I feel at home on this campus because everyone is welcoming and wanting to know more about you. The professors and other peers make you feel like you belong and want to see you be successful, for yourself and this campus. I have opened up so much during my time here and I am grateful for Mount Union.

In the Classroom

I chose early childhood education because I want to be an advocate for my students. My goal is the give my students the best education they deserve no matter where they come from, who their family is, and what troubles they face. I look forward to shaping minds and watching young children grow in my classroom. My teachers and professors throughout my life have always been role models and people I can count on so I want to be that person my students can come to.

Study Abroad

While at Mount Union I have had the opportunity to study abroad in Italy. Through this opportunity, I was able to grow in so many ways. I meet so many people on this journey and made life-long friends. I was able to observe a real Montessori and Reggio Emilia Approach schools while over there. I was able to apply my education in a real-world setting and it was needed.

Career Goals

My goal once I graduate from Mount Union is to move back home and teach at my alma mater. I love my hometown and the people in it. My school was like a community and I want to go back to the place where I grew up. I want to be a 2nd-grade teacher and teach ASL in my free time. American Sign Language has been my favorite class I have taken, it opens me up to a whole new language. I may not be licensed in it but I want to help open others' eyes to this other culture. Mount has given me all the classes I need to be prepared along with an amazing education staff to help me achieve my goal.
