My godfather and his son went to Mount, so I've heard about the school ever since I was little. I decided to attend here because I was recruited for swimming and Mount has the health coach program, which is extremely beneficial for pre-med students. In addition, every single person I walked by on my tour greeted me, this made me feel welcomed right away.
Second Home at UMU
What makes Mount different from anywhere else is, everyone says hi to you, even the gardening staff. As well as if you need support, there's a ton of resources out there--all you have to do is ask. No one is ever left hanging out to dry. Mount has felt like a big family since day one.
Advice for Future Students
Find a place that feels like your home away from home and where you can see yourself fitting in. Find a university that gives you opportunities to grow and develop, because that's what college is about.
Opportunities through Mount
I have been an intern for the Alliance Area Domestic Violence Shelter. I currently do research with Dr. Miller's lab on immunotherapies, and next year I plan to participate in the health coach program. Due to the Integrative Core program at Mount I have felt better prepared for these opportunities. The integrative core challenges my science brain to think critically in other ways, and I have learned how to articulate myself not only in a presentation format but in my daily life as well.
Plans for the Future
I plan to be either a neuro- or trauma surgeon. Mount is preparing me for this field by having challenging rigor, advising students for medical school, and offering experiences in the medical field through the Health coach program.
