Choosing Mount Union

A friend from my high school cross-country team directed me to Mount Union by telling me about his amazing experience here. I was looking for a smaller school close to home and when I visited Mount Union, I felt very comfortable here. I felt a connection with the campus and the faculty. Although making the initial decision was difficult, I have never once regretted by decision to attend this school. I received the Trustee Scholarship and during my time here at Mount Union, I have also earned the Drake Musician Recruitment Scholarship and the Harold R. Dillow Geology Prize.

Why I love UMU

My friends and the faculty here truly make this place another home for me. I have formed such close connections with many people here, and they have helped make my experience here so much more enjoyable. I have made so many friends here and have had amazing experiences that I would have not encountered anywhere else. My experiences and education here at Mount Union will give me the advantage of coming from a university that is known across the country for excellence.

Study Abroad

One of my favorite experiences through Mount Union was my study abroad trip. I decided to study abroad through USAC in Germany this past summer for six weeks and my only regret is that it couldn't have been for longer. I studied at Leuphana University of Lüneburg and stayed in shared apartment with another USAC student. My roommates were from Mexico, South Korea, and another from Romania as well. This alone was a wonderful learning experience and on top of that I was able to explore Lüneburg, a beautiful German town, as well as a number of other cities such as Berlin and Cologne. While I was there, I took a German language course as well as another course called International Environmental Issues.

After College

My end goal is to attend graduate school after Mount Union to receive a master’s degree and specialize in a certain branch of geology that I have not yet decided. I want to go into research and hopefully work with NASA or the USGS. My hope is that whatever I do will have a positive impact on the planet and will contribute to its understanding and preservation. The skills I have gained at Mount, especially through the Integrative Core, have helped me to be prepared for my career. As a geologist, I may have to write reports or give presentations and my experiences with the Integrative Core have helped me become a concise writer and presenter.
