What I'm Researching
I’m currently working on a research project that explores American writers who went overseas to cover the Spanish Civil War in the 1930s. I am also interested in writers like Richard Wright who later traveled to Spain in order to document the human rights abuses under the dictatorship of Francisco Franco.

Working with students one-on-one is the best part of my job. There’s no better way to help them develop as readers, writers, and thinkers.

Best concert ever attended: Jeff Beck at Blossom Music Center in 1995. My ears are still ringing!
Favortite book: Harmonium by Wallace Stevens.
Favorite travel destination: The Atacama Desert in Chile.
If I wasn't a professor I would be: A travel writer or lead guitarist in an Allman Brothers tribute band.
