Choosing Mount Union
I chose to attend Mount Union because of the atmosphere and the at-home vibes. I was also fortunate to receive the Trustee Scholarship. Mount Union fits the small-town, Gilmore Girls life vibes where you see the same people getting a muffin at KHIC Start each morning before your 8:45 a.m. class, and the same people walking to the townhouses after your afternoon class lets out. I would tell high school students looking at colleges that touring is great, but nothing gives you the true experience of what a university is like. If you can, stay the night and see what life is like on campus without your parents in tow.
Why English and Writing?
I have always been drawn to English and writing. When I saw Mount Union had specific majors for each of them, I knew I wanted to become a double major because of the versatility and variety in both majors. I would love to be an editor full time one day, and everything that Mount Union has offered me from the classes, work experience, and extracurriculars has set me on a path to one day make that dream a reality.
Opportunities from UMU
I was offered a position at the DWOC at the end of my sophomore year and kept that position until my senior year. When I was a senior, I secured a part time internship at Union Home Mortgage. This work study has provided me with real experience to get internships outside of the university and build my resume early. It has also helped me to practice building portfolios for the WOC and senior portfolio.
