The Bachelor of Arts degree in media from the University of Mount Union integrates a variety of topics including the foundations, history and analysis of media along with audio and video storytelling production skills.

With the constantly changing media landscape, our media major requirements and curriculum will provide you with the knowledge and flexibility for a competitive advantage in the job market. Those who pursue a degree in media will have the skills suitable for a variety of careers including social media, narrative video production, film production, documentary storytelling, and sports broadcasting. If you are not interested in production, we also have a media studies path that prepares students for graduate school. 

Media Major Quick Facts  

The media degree requires a total of 52-56 credit hours, along with the 32 credit hours required to fulfill the University’s general education program, the Integrative Core, which allows students to explore areas of study outside their field of interest while developing essential leadership and communication skills that employers value.

Mount Union’s media major requirements are rooted in narrative and feature storytelling. Courses cover video and film editing, camera operation, documentary and creative film production, social media, and multimedia design. The media degree also provides ample opportunities for hands-on learning both in and out of the classroom including:

  • Participation and membership in Raider Student Media, the organization that oversees Mount Union’s radio station, WRMU 91.1 FM, the student-led newspaper, The Dynamo, and Studio M.
  • On-campus practicums
  • Internships with local and national organizations
