Math major

The small school environment creates a family feel no matter where you are involved on campus, from academic programs to clubs and beyond. These connections have allowed me to succeed and reach my goals during my time at Mount.

B.S., Mathematics

Brunswick, Ohio

Why Mount Union?

I chose UMU for a number of reasons. I originally visited because there was both a lacrosse team and a mathematics major, but the minute I walked on campus I knew this was where I would end up. The atmosphere on this beautiful campus is like no other, and you can feel the sense of community from the moment you arrive. The biggest thing I love about UMU is the opportunity to be involved in many parts of campus. A lot of schools are designed in a way that can be restrictive to a variety of involvement, but I have been able to be a part of many different organizations of campus at once and I have really enjoyed that.

Choosing a major

When choosing what I wanted to study, I was very indecisive. To try and help, everyone around me would first ask me what my favorite subject was, which was mathematics, and then would try to advise me towards a number of different majors (funnily enough, no one ever suggested mathematics). I eventually decided to try financial mathematics, but once I got here and started working through some math courses, I realized mathematics was what I wanted to do and that the major was an option for me. Since then, the department has been so helpful and supportive as I have worked through this major and I know I made the right choice.

Career Goals

Right now, I plan to go into data analytics. However, I know that there are many opportunities out there for me and I am open to new ideas and excited to see where I go in the end.
