Human development and family science major

My internship and all the classes pertaining to my major have helped me to succeed and be prepared for what my future holds.

Education

B.S., Human Development and Family Science

Hometown

Ashtabula, Ohio

Home Away from Home

Mount Union visited my high school and I chose to attend because of the welcoming environment, extracurriculars and involvement, the academic program, how small and personable the college is, and because of the beautiful atmosphere. I know so many faces and where I am feels like a family. The students all work together, spend all our time together, and I love every moment of it. I received multiple grants given by Mount Union and other outside scholarships from mentoring programs and my hometown. If you’re looking at choosing a college, I would say to choose somewhere with a good balance of education and extracurriculars. It’s important to balance hard work and good times.

Career Goals

At first, I had wanted to be a doctor; however, after taking my first psychology course, I fell in love with the material and found out what I am most passionate about. I want to go beyond helping people and build connections with them that will last. I really want to work with others whether in psychological research, marriage and family therapy, or working in a pediatric hospital with patients in need. My internship and all the classes pertaining to my major have helped me to succeed and be prepared for what my future holds.

Learning Experiences at UMU

Right now I am interning at Regina Coeli Elementary School. I work with kindergarten, first, second and fourth graders. I absolutely love working with them, getting to know them, and building relationships with them. Because of opportunities like this I will be well-rounded, which will be extremely helpful in the future as well as set me apart from others with a general educational experience.
