College Benefits

I  wanted to attend a smaller college where I could develop closer interpersonal relationships with professors and other students. When I visited Mount Union in high school, I could see myself on the campus. I liked the people I met, and it seemed like the faculty were really focused on supporting students' learning. My student jobs in particular helped me in a variety of ways. My internship at the Office of Marketing gave me real-world writing experience, which strengthened my technical writing skills. Working as a DWOC consultant honed my oral communication skills, and I've now become a go-to person for creating presentations. I design PowerPoints for our division-wide meetings, working closely with Epic's upper management. Being a Preview Guide helped me learn how to connect with and support a variety of people, which has been crucial to my success as a manager.

Working at Epic Systems

I'm in charge of software quality for Epic's pharmacy inventory application. I monitor issues, test new development, coordinate with developers, and oversee a team of other testers. I also do technical writing to support end users' implementation and use of the software. As well, I have a variety of responsibilities and opportunities to challenge myself. Every day I'm doing something different, whether it's testing, writing, running meetings, or coaching my team members. I also appreciate that my work is meaningful. This year alone, I've worked on multiple COVID-related projects, including development to track vaccine inventory so that healthcare organizations can more easily keep track of their current COVID vaccine stock levels and report them accurately to the government.

Connected from Another State

I love Mount Union because it both feels as comfortable as a second home while also providing new experiences that challenge students to grow. My four years at Mount really shaped who I am today and gave me the tools I needed to jumpstart a successful career. I also made a number of lifelong friends, both in my fellow students and former professors. I keep in touch with professors and other former students through social media. I also follow Mount's social media accounts and read email newsletters. I try to participate in Raiders Give each year, making sure that Wisconsin stays on the map of donors!
