My Career

My primary responsibility at my job is leading a national business development team that is focused on creating demand and increasing market presence in our K-12, higher education, and healthcare core vertical markets. I am also responsible for key account growth, implementing market and customer specific sales strategies, marketing material, and developing thought leadership programs focused on creating value customer experiences in our core vertical markets. Prior to my promotion to senior director, I was the one responsible for the job, but now I’m responsible for the people who are responsible for the job. Because of this, I want to become an effective leader, not just a manager of people. During my career I have held myself accountable, taken risks, made mistakes, applied lessons learned, lead via questioning, cared for those around me and applied the right perspective. Regardless of title, the ultimate career goal is to be viewed from my colleagues as an effective leader and someone they want to work for because I'm making a positive impact on their personal and professional careers.

That is why I'm pursuing my MBA. It is early in the program, but so far it has enhanced my overall business knowledge and understanding. The program has challenged me to think critically and to take a holistic and complete viewpoint. The program has provided me the opportunity to regularly apply my business experience to the weekly discussions and assignments, which has furthered my confidence and ability to apply to my professional career.

Why Mount Union?

I was looking for the right program that fit my company's culture and supported the increasing need for developing effective leaders. I chose the University of Mount Union because they had a concentration focused on leadership and innovation. I'm humbled to be a part of the inaugural MBA class. I would highly recommend the program to people who have a minimum of three years work experience. The ability to bring professional learnings to the discussions and assignments which are then supported by the on-line readings and textbooks develops confident business leaders that have a well-rounded understanding.
