Fall Alumni Recital Planned for September 23 

ALLIANCE, Ohio —The University of Mount Union Department of Music will present an alumni recital on Sunday September 23 at 7:30 p.m. in Presser Recital Hall. The recital will feature cellist Maria Fesz ‘09, pianist Laura (Jurasko ‘09) Mason, mezzo soprano Alicia (Bousner ’10) Hruby and composer Michael Vince ‘08.  

Fesz is a Cleveland, Ohio native. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from Mount Union and her Master of Music in cello performance from Youngstown State University. Fesz also holds a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science, and currently works as a librarian with Overdrive. She has performed with the Tuscarawas Philharmonic, Warren Philharmonic and Youngstown Symphony Orchestra. She has also performed with the Ohio Light Opera Orchestra in Wooster, Ohio and as a member of a professional string quartet for Holland America Cruise Line. 

Mason received her Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Mount Union. She is a licensed Kindermusik educator. Mason currently works for Kathy’s Music in Pittsburgh where she teaches piano, voice, Kindermusik, musical theater and general music classes. Mason collaborates with fellow teachers and friends for performances throughout the year in the Pittsburgh area. 

Hruby received her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Mount Union and her Master of Music from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Hruby also attended Baldwin Wallace University where she completed coursework required to obtain her Board Certification in Music Therapy. She recently started a non-profit, In Harmony Therapeutic Services, aimed at helping children and adolescents living with developmental disabilities, at-risk behaviors and/or mental health issues. 

Vince is currently living in New York City and composes works for chamber ensembles, chorus, orchestra, voice and short film. Vince received his Bachelor of Music degree in voice performance from Mount Union and his Master of Music in theory and music composition from the New York University.   Vince performs in various choruses, such as the Litha Orchestra Chorus and New York Festival Singers. 

The program, “Fantastical Dreams: The Cope Alumni Tour” will feature music of Final Fantasy VII, and Fantasiestücke as well as “Dream With Me” from Peter Pan and the World Premiere of Once Upon a TimeOnce Upon a Time is written as five different segments that are connected by a repeating musical idea.  The order of these segments is determined by the results of a collaborative story that asks the listeners to choose five options throughout the tale that correspond to the five segments. The order is given to the performers who then perform the piece in its entirety.
