Public Statement from the Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center

March 12, 2020

Yesterday, the University of Mount Union announced multiple measures regarding efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus). These measures include canceling classes, suspending face-to-face instruction, and limiting group sizes for indoor events through April 3. This date will be reassessed as more information becomes available.

In keeping with the University’s efforts, the Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center will also limit activities, effective immediately until April 3. These restrictions include:

  • All indoor programs and school groups are canceled and the Visitors Center will not be open to the public.
  • Outdoor programs are not canceled but group size may be limited. Be sure to register for these events by phone or email.
  • The Nature Center’s Photo Contest is no longer open for viewing and the “People’s Choice” voting results will be announced soon. Participants can make arrangements to pick up their photos by phone or email.

Although the Visitors Center will be closed, the trails will remain open from dawn to dusk. As always, sometimes a walk in the outdoors is the best way to deal with stressful situations, and we encourage the use of our trails. Also, Nature Center staff will be on site during our normal working hours and will be available by phone or email for any questions, concerns, emergencies, etc.

To reach the staff at the Nature Center, please call (330) 823-7487 or email naturecenter@mountunion.edu. For more information about the University’s response to COVID-19, visit www.mountunion.edu/covid-19. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
