Two Mount Union Business Honor Society Students Earn Scholarships

September 09, 2020

ALLIANCE, Ohio — The Omicron Xi chapter of Delta Mu Delta, the international business honor society at the University of Mount Union, is pleased to announce that two of the members of its 2020 class have been awarded scholarships by the society.

Those earning $2,000 Delta Mu Delta Board Awards are seniors Jacob Labonte '20, an accounting and finance double major of Erie, Pennsylvania and William Martin '20, also an accounting and finance double major of Fort Thomas, Kentucky. Martin currently holds a leadership position in the institution’s Delta Mu Delta chapter.

Delta Mu Delta members compete annually for scholarships. In 2020, approximately 90 scholarships totaling nearly $90,000 were awarded by the society. Mount Union is honored to have two members of its 2020 class selected for scholarship awards.

Mount Union student-scholars are eligible to be inducted into Delta Mu Delta as a result of the business programs at Mount Union being accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). In the two years since earning accreditation from ACBSP and forming a Delta Mu Delta chapter, five Mount Union students have earned scholarships representing almost four percent of the total cash awarded worldwide by the society.

Bill Schweizer, assistant professor of management and professional in residence at Mount Union, is the founding advisor for the chapter.

“Once again this year we are proud to have two of our student-scholars recognized for their achievements in scholarship and leadership,” said Schweizer. “This year has been particularly challenging with the virtual shutdown of normal campus life. Nonetheless, the officers and members of Delta Mu Delta continue to excel academically and to provide leadership on campus.”

Delta Mu Delta is a business honor society that recognizes and encourages academic excellence of students at qualifying colleges and universities to create a community that fosters the well-being of its individual members, and the business community, through life-time membership.

Mount Union’s Department of Business is accredited by the ACBSP and is eligible to nominate Delta Mu Delta members as a result of this accreditation. Delta Mu Delta nominees represent the top 20 percent of their graduating classes.
