Shakespeare at the Castle
If you had a castle right in the middle of your city, what would you do?
Actors, designers, musicians and directors from the University of Mount Union, Alliance area and beyond have come up with a great idea: We will create an annual theatre festival performed live on the grounds of the iconic Glamorgan Castle in Alliance, Ohio.
The productions will be audience friendly, perfect for families and exciting for all of our patrons.
In addition, the artists will provide workshops free of charge to the young people in our community. These unique educational experiences will use the words, history and music of William Shakespeare to develop an appreciation for live theatre.
Our First Production
Shakespeare’s classic comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream is the perfect show for our inaugural season. Set in 1904 – the same year as Glamorgan Castle was constructed - and accompanied by members of the Alliance Symphony conducted by composer Eric Benjamin, the performance tells the hilarious story of the consequences when mortals collide with the fairy kingdom. Along the way, the world’s first community theatre rehearses a play to be performed at a wedding ceremony with disastrous results.
A limited quantity of bleacher seating is still available on Friday, July 25 and Sunday, July 27 and will be available at the gate one hour prior to the show (cash or check only). Saturday, July 26 is sold out.
