Application Essay Instructions

We would like to get to know you as well as possible through these application materials and believe that your thoughtful, well-constructed essay is an important step in the process. Your application essay should be of sufficient length to demonstrate your writing ability to the Admission Committee and to do justice to the topic. 

You may upload your application essay as a Microsoft Word or PDF document when submitting the online application. You may also submit your essay through the mail at 1972 Clark Ave., Alliance, OH 44601; fax at (330) 823-5097, or email at admission@mountunion.edu. 

  1. First-Time Student Applicants

    As a general guideline, the length of your application essay should be a minimum of 300 words.

    Please respond to one of the following questions.

    1. What would you like our admission committee to know about you that we cannot learn simply by reviewing your high school transcript and other records submitted in support of your application?
    2. What significant leadership or volunteer roles have you played? How have they impacted your life?
    3. What values do you cherish the most and how have you demonstrated them through the choices that you have made?

  2. Transfer Student Applicants

    As a general guideline, the length of your application essay should be a minimum of 300 words. Explain the reason for leaving your prior institution and the reason for selecting University of Mount Union.

  3. International Student Applicants

    Please write a three paragraph essay describing your educational goals.

  4. Nursing Program Applicants

    You are not required to respond to the prompts above. An essay in response to the following question will be used in review of both your Mount Union application and the nursing program application.

    Your application essay must be at least one page and a minimum of 500 words in length. Please describe why you are interested in nursing as a major and why you want to enroll in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at Mount Union.
