I always say, "If you get bored being an occupational therapist, then you're not trying!" OT is an amalgam of teaching, creative problem-solving, providing holistic support, and advocacy. The field is ever-changing and evolving with the needs of society and individuals. Occupational therapy practice is fueled by the passions and creativity of those who serve. I was introduced to occupational therapy while helping care for my grandparents. I was inspired by how individualized meaning and purpose were encapsulated in treatments. I love occupational therapy and the opportunities it provides!
A Teaching Philosophy Built on Meaningful Learning
My teaching philosophy centers on meeting learners where they are and supporting their growth throughout the learning process. I value the time, effort, and dedication students invest in mastering new concepts, and I strive to create meaningful learning experiences that connect theory to practice. By drawing on real-world examples from my clinical experience, I help students deepen their understanding, enhance clinical reasoning, and apply knowledge in authentic contexts.
Passion, Practice, and Purpose: A Fulfilling Career
My favorite part of being a professor is the opportunity to share my passion for occupational therapy with my students. Remaining active in clinical practice allows me to enrich their learning with real-world experiences, challenge their clinical reasoning, and help them connect classroom concepts to meaningful practice. Occupational therapy is a profession that encourages us to think beyond traditional solutions and embrace creativity in addressing each client’s unique needs. I am inspired by the privilege of helping individuals navigate their “new normal” and build lives that are meaningful and fulfilling. OT requires a blend of creativity, empathy, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of what motivates people. Whether working with clients or mentoring students, I find great joy in witnessing those moments of growth, achievement, and success.

What Drew Me to Mount Union?
I was drawn to UMU’s occupational therapy program because of its welcoming and supportive culture, the genuine dedication of its faculty, and the unique opportunity to help build a new ACOTE-accredited program. The opportunity to contribute to developing a curriculum from the ground up, while working alongside passionate colleagues committed to student success, was both exciting and professionally rewarding. The collaborative environment and shared vision for excellence in OT education made UMU a place where I knew I could make a meaningful impact. Plus… I love the color purple!
